If you really want to try live video because of how effective it can be, but you’re struggling to know what to post, this is a great list of live video ideas you can try!
Struggling for live video inspiration?
Here are my top 10 ideas for live videos that tend to convert well and/or get a lot of engagement:
1. Look at your top trafficked posts.
Look in Google Analytics and see which of your posts get the most traffic — and specifically, which posts get the most click-throughs from Facebook and Instagram.
This tells you what kinds of posts people engage with and the topics they’re most interested in. It can give you a lot of insight into what might perform well on live video!
And as an easy live video idea, just take a highly trafficked blog post and do a video about it!
For example, this post about 25 things to buy at ALDI is one of our top trafficked posts at MoneySavingMom.com, so if I was ever hurting for live video ideas, I might jump on live video and talk about that!
2. Demonstrate how to do something.
People love it when you get on live video and share how to do something.
For example, just a few weeks ago I made pizza crust on live video and people loved it!
Some ideas might be DIY projects, cooking, crafting, life hacks, or making something with your hands.
3. Show a shopping haul.
People love when I share my grocery shopping hauls from Kroger.
Depending on what your market is interested in, you could share about your shopping trips at craft stores, grocery stores, Home Depot, and more!
Unboxings do really well, too! If you have a subscription to a monthly box or a company sends you one to try out, be sure to try unboxing it on live video.
I recently did a Date Night in a Box unboxing on live video. And I typically do a Stitch Fix unboxing every month.
People love show and tell!
{And as you get more traffic, companies often love to pay for live video unboxings or product reviews!}
4. Ask for help or opinions.
Not sure what to cook for dinner? Which top to wear today? Which paint color to choose for your bedroom remodel?
If you’re struggling with a simple decision like this, get on live video and ask people for their help and opinions. People love to give their input!
Just remember that if you ask the Internet for their opinion, you’ll get their opinion. And sometimes people can be very brutally honest (and even sometimes hurtful). So just make sure you’re ready to hear what people have to say if you ask for opinions!
Asking for opinions or help on live video is a great way to foster relationship with your audience!
5. Talk about a recent post.
Have a recent post you published on your blog and want to get more traffic to it? Try posting it as a live video on Facebook!
This has done SO well for me! I often post blog content to Facebook in many different ways to increase audience exposure, and one of those ways is live video!
Typically, if I get on live video and talk about a recent post and share the link, it’ll generate much more traffic to the post than if I just posted it regularly as a photo or link post.
This is such an easy live video idea, because you’ve already done the work by writing the blog post!
6. Provide a quick tip.
Have a quick life hack or tip? Share it with your audience in a short live video!
For example, I do a lot of traveling and try to pack minimally and only bring a carry-on.
One of my travel tips that I learned a few years back is to put lotions and creams in contact cases instead of bringing the whole bottle. I shared that on live video once and people really loved it!
7. Answer a question.
If someone messages or emails in about a question and you feel like a lot of other people would be interested in it, try answering it on live video!
This is a two-for-one solution, because you answer the question for your reader but also benefit your audience at large!
And if it does well, you could even eventually turn it into a blog post.
8. Tell a story.
People love hearing real-life, personal stories.
Telling your audience stories is a really great way to personally connect with them!
When you go to tell a story, make sure it’s intriguing, helpful, or funny — that there’s something about it that will benefit your audience in some way, even if it’s just making them laugh.
9. Give your opinion or perspective on a topic.
In the same way that people love giving their opinions, they often love to hear your opinion.
{Be very careful with this one, because you definitely don’t want to hurt people or ostracize your followers. It’s really important to be thoughtful!}
If you’re really passionate about a topic, try sharing your perspective in a gracious manner! Your audience might really love this.
For example, a couple years ago, I did a live video on how I feel about multi-level marketing. It was a strong opinion, but I tried to do it in a loving, gracious way that benefited people.
It actually went viral and I got a great response from people who both love and hate multi-level marketing!
10. Share a top 10 list.
Sharing a top 10 list is a great live video idea.
Top 10 lists always do great for me on live video, and I often end up turning them into blog posts.
{Notice this blog post you’re reading right now? I first did a live video on it here and then turned it into this blog post. See how that works?!}
Always remember to maximize the mileage of video by using it as a blog post later on!
I hope this list of live video ideas gives you some inspiration to jump on live video!
